About us

The Diabetes UK North Devon group is one of over 350 voluntary groups situated throughout the UK.

Our goal is to provide support and educate people living with diabetes, as well as their family, friends and anyone else who is interested in knowing more about diabetes.

We encourage those interested to attend our group meetings which are a welcoming and social environment for people to discuss diabetes and its effects. Support and companionship are some of the simplest yet most important aspects of living with diabetes - this is why our group exists and we want to help in any way that we can.

We meet twice a month, once for an informal chat and coffee where we discuss anything you like, it may or may not be related to diabetes but we are always there as a support group.  Our second meeting is more formal where we have a speaker, usually related to living with diabetes.  At this meeting we hold a raffle to help cover our costs. The meeting is followed by coffee and biscuits for which we request a donation.  We also have a welcome table for new members.

We also promote diabetes awareness by holding special days in prominent places, sometimes a collection forms part of this day, at other times purely as an awareness campaign.

Weather permitting we hold monthly walks for those who are able, this sometimes involves a lunch afterwards when others may join in.

We have a book table from which books may be borrowed to help in understanding diabetes.  We also hold various social activities including skittles evenings, days out and weekends away.
